As small business marketers, it’s our job to follow digital marketing trends. We’ve been hyping video for a little while now, but if there’s anything we’ve taken away from the last 12 months, it’s that video is no long a marketing “option”, it’s a "marketing must-have" and a critical part of any successful content strategy.
Where video was potentially a source of frustration due to slow buffering times, new mobile technology continues to improve speed and performance for faster video consumption. This gaining momentum has fuelled consumers’ appetite for video viewing. And why not? Video is engaging, shareable, cross-device and has the potential to be far reaching.
Studies show that nearly 50% of global brands are already incorporating video into their content strategy. Brian Halligan from Inbound Marketing gurus Hubspot recommends that at least 50% of marketing content should be video.
Text and images are still an essential component, but video will eventually be expected as a part of the consumer experience, otherwise consumers will lose interest.
“Diversify your content playbook to include social + video in addition to text + search” says Halligan.
